Course Description / objectives:
This course discusses some of the most salientissues in EFLReading theory and practice.The topics covered include, inter alia,a look at the traditional and modern approaches to reading, the types and characteristics of written language, the micro-skills andstrategies of reading comprehension, the principles of extensive reading,the strategies of critical reading and critical thinking, the factors of reading selections, dyslexia and reading problems. The main objectives of the course are to help students understandthe process of reading in general, to learn howtoutilize the various techniques and strategies of textual processing for the purposes of comprehension, andthe realization of the importance of reading asa complex language skill which plays a crucial role in the student's academic,personal and social development.
